Cytochrome c (CYC)
Mitochrondrial cytochrome c (15 kDa) is a water–soluble protein. Cytochrome c functions in the respiratory chain by interacting with redox partners. It is highly conserved during evolution. Measurement of cytochrome c release from the mitochondria is a tool to detect the first early steps of initiation of apoptosis in cells.
