Hepatocyte Growth Factor Activator (HGFA)
HGFA is a serine protease that converts HGF to its active form. It is produced mainly from the liver as a proform and becomes activated HGFA by the action of thrombin and coagulation factor Xa. Two types of proteins, HAI-1 and HAI-2, which are Kunitz-type serine protease inhibitors, have been identified as inhibitors of the physiological actions of HGFA.
