Summary

LH is produced and stored in basophilic cells called gonadotrophs in the anterior pituitary gland. LH is found in all vertebrates from fishes to mammals. Human diseases showing low blood LH levels: hypo-gonadotropic eunuchoidism, primary central amenorrhea, Sheehan syndrome, Chiari-Frommel syndrome, anorexia nervosa, granulosa-cell tumor, adrenogenital syndrome, luteal dysfunction, craniopharyngioma, etc. Diseases showing high blood LH levels: azospermia, Kleinfelter syndrome, Turner syndrome, premature adolescence, premature menopause, polycystic ovary syndrome (Stein‐Leventhal syndrome), ovarian growth and developmental disorder, castration, menopause, etc.
