Adiponectin isoforms (3. Hypothesis)

High molecular weight adiponectin is the active form of the protein, having better predictive power for the prediction of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome than plasma total adiponectin level and representing a very sensitive parameter to short-term body mass index changes. Its decrease may be an early event in the natural history of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
