First impressions of Medlab 2024

In the middle of the busiest pavilion, Za'abeel Hall 5, we showcased the best that BG has to offer. There was interest in all key projects – CLIA, MBA and NGS, whose presentation dominated the BioVendor Group booth, including the KleeYa® analyzer on display.

The Medlab Series

The first event of the year within the Medlab Series is held annually at the beginning of February in Dubai under the name Medlab Middle East. The name itself reveals the target group at which this popular event and congress is aimed. Medlab West Africa follows in April, in Lagos, Nigeria, and the series concludes in July with Medlab Asia, attracting suppliers and professionals from Southeast Asia to Bangkok.

Record attendance

The organizers' strategic move to make Medlab Middle East independent from the parallel Arab Health medical fair proved successful in the past, and this year's record statistics of the number of exhibitors and visitors dispelled any doubts.  833 exhibitors from 48 countries and 30,000 attendees necessitated the addition of another hall, which hosted an additional 100 exhibitors on 1,500 m2 of exhibition space and created a new zone and venue for a new conference track - NextGen Medicine.

The educational part of Medlab is the reason for the strong representation of the laboratory professionals among the visitors of the fair. Michal Šteffl, Head of International Sales at TestLine, shares the same opinion: “Unlike the Medica fair in Düsseldorf, where we meet almost exclusively with distributors, Medlab is also attended by many local end customers, not only from the Middle East, but also from Europe. The attraction is not only the location itself, but also the accompanying expert lectures."

NextGen Medicine conference or entry into the new age of personalized medicine

The Medlab Middle East Congress is the only multidisciplinary congress in the region, covering a wide range of topics including Laboratory Management, Lab Quality Management, Clinical Chemistry, Immunology, Hematology, Clinical Microbiology, Histopathology, Future of Lab, and Sustainability in the Lab. The new educational part was enriched by the introduction of two conference tracks - NextGen Medicine and Clinical Genomic Interpretation.

Each subject captures the ever-changing laboratory environment, and we can see how the scientific working areas are gearing up for the transition to smart hubs. The attendees could dive into the new age of precision medicine of today and tomorrow, from AI-driven organ analysis for transplants to data governance.

Molecular diagnostics is trendy

Anna Kolouchová, who works as Business Development Manager at BioVendor MDx, confirms the boom in molecular diagnostics: “I was quite surprised by the interest in NGS technology and bioinformatics data processing. Thanks to our participation at Medlab this year, we may enter new markets that we have not paid much attention to before. It was remarkable how well informed our visitors were about current trends and various molecular diagnostic methods, including LAMP and miRNA.”

The best of BG in the world competition

Her enthusiasm was shared by colleagues from other BioVendor Group companies, who showcased the best that BG has to offer in the middle of the busiest pavilion, Za'abeel Hall 5. There was interest in all key projects – CLIA, MBA and NGS, whose presentation dominated the BioVendor Group booth, including the KleeYa® analyzer on display. Other immunodiagnostic products focusing on RIA and ELISA technologies also found their way to the show.

„In terms of presenting new products and market trends, Medlab did not lack the presence of most of the major players in the field,“ says Kristýna Brožová, Product Manager at BioVendor LM. She was also surprised by how much the molecular diagnostics and NGS solutions were represented at the fair. “Compared to European trade fairs, there were many more CLIA analyzers of different brands, originating mainly from China, on offer here, in addition to the representation of the NGS technology.”

There is never enough praise

“A positive fact is that many visitors knew BioVendor and perceived us as a company with a good reputation and high-quality products,” described   Jaromíra Nováková, Area Sales Manager at TestLine. „It is obvious that the quality of our products plays the main role, and this is one of the reasons why some partners prefer us over cheaper Chinese competitors,” she concludes.

All our representatives agreed unequivocally on how crucial the Medlab Middle East trade fair is for the entire BioVendor Group. In short, a big thank you to all our visitors and business partners whom we could welcome at our stand. We have such great motivation for the next edition. See you in Dubai next year!
