Atriopeptin

Atriopeptin is a 28 amino acid peptide synthesised primarily in cardiac atria. This peptide hormone acts in an opposing manner to angiotensin in regulating renal, hemodynamic and endocrine function. Elevated plasma levels may be produced in experimental models by volume expansion, high salt diets, and vasoconstrictors. Increased plasma concentrations have also been reported in various pathologicall conditions such as renal disease, congestive heart failure, and paroxysmal atrial tachycardia.
