Irisin is a myokine hormone produced and secreted by acutely exercising skeletal muscles and may mediate weight loss and thermoregulation. Irisin is also expected to be a potential therapeutic agent for the treatment of obesity and its related conditions. Recently, serum irisin was investigated as a marker of muscle function or dysfunction in metabolic homeostasis by BioVendor's immunoassay.
